Description
The tassled scorpionfish is a scorpionfish (Scorpaenidae) from reef water of the Indo-West Pacific. The species grows to about 35 cm and has a stocky body entirely covered with skin flaps and fringes and a large, spiny head, making it look strikingly like an overgrown rock point. As a motionless ambush predator it engulfs passing fish and crustaceans with a lightning-fast suction strike. The dorsal spines are venomous and can give a very painful puncture wound.
