Description
The pinjalo is a snapper from the Indo-West Pacific, ranging from the Persian Gulf to the Gulf of Papua and north to Taiwan. The species grows to about 80 cm and has a deep, reddish body. It lives in schools over reefs and rocky bottoms, usually between 15 and 100 metres depth, and feeds on benthic and planktonic invertebrates and small fish. It is a valued food fish marketed fresh or dried-salted. The IUCN assesses the species as Least Concern (LC).
