Description
Ansorge's citharine is an African characiform (Citharinidae) from large rivers and floodplains of West Africa, including the Niger. The species grows to about 40 cm and has a deep, laterally compressed, silvery body with large scales and a small mouth. As a bottom-oriented fish it searches over sand and mud for detritus, algae, worms and small invertebrates. It is locally a food fish. The fish is harmless to humans.
