Description
The Pasion cichlid is a cichlid (Cichlidae) from Central America, related to the firemouth cichlid. The species grows to about 15 cm and has a deep, yellow-brown body with a few dark blotches and a conspicuous spot on the gill cover. It inhabits both rivers and lakes with softer substrate in the Usumacinta drainage. On the bottom it sifts the soft substrate for small invertebrates and organic matter. As a cichlid it is a caring brood-tender that lays its eggs on a hard surface and guards them. The species is harmless to humans.
