Description
The Tano electric catfish is an electric catfish (Malapteruridae) from fresh water of West Africa, notably the Tano and adjacent drainages. The species grows to about 26 cm and has a stocky, scaleless, grey-pink body with three pairs of barbels and a rounded tail. In a muscle layer around its body it generates powerful electric shocks to stun prey and defend itself. As a nocturnal predator it hunts small fish and invertebrates.
