Description
The steentjie is a seabream (Sparidae) from coastal waters of southern Africa. The species grows to about 30 cm and has a deep, silver-grey body with a bluish sheen, fine longitudinal lines and large eyes. As a schooling, bottom-oriented fish it lives over reef and weed bottoms and eats algae, small invertebrates and zooplankton. It is a frequently caught angling fish. The fish is harmless to humans.
