The Sideband hap is a cichlid endemic to Lake Malawi in East Africa. The species grows to about 14 cm and has an elongate, silvery body; dominant males colour bright blue with yellow and orange, females duller. As a bottom-oriented fish it lives around rock and sand zones of the lake and eats growth, algae and small invertebrates. It is a mouthbrooder. The fish is harmless to humans.
