Description
The Danakil cichlid is a cichlid endemic to the saline Lake Afrera and hot springs in the Danakil Depression of Ethiopia and Eritrea, in one of the hottest places on Earth. The species grows to about 10 cm and has a stocky, grey-brown body with glittering spots, adapted to extreme salty, warm water. As a bottom-oriented fish it grazes algae and biofilm and snaps at small invertebrates. It is a mouthbrooder. The fish is harmless to humans.
