Description
The scaly sand darter is a small freshwater darter from the southeastern United States. The species grows to about 7 cm and has a very slender, translucent, yellowish body that blends in perfectly on sandy bottoms. It lives in clear, flowing water of rivers and streams and often buries itself in the sand with only the eyes showing. It feeds on small insect larvae and invertebrates. The fish is sensitive to turbidity. The IUCN assesses the species as Least Concern (LC).
