Description

Kirk's hap is a cichlid from Lake Malawi in East Africa. The species grows to about 18 cm and has an elongate body; dominant males are handsomely blue with yellow tones in courtship, females silver-grey with a few dark blotches. As a bottom-dweller it lives over sand and transitional bottoms and searches for small invertebrates and insect larvae. It is a mouthbrooder. The fish is harmless to humans.
