Description
The Korogwe tilapia is a tilapia cichlid from fresh and brackish water of coastal rivers and lakes of eastern Africa. The species grows to about 25 cm and has a deep, silver-grey body with sometimes faint crossbars and a metallic sheen. As an omnivore it grazes algae, biofilm and plant material and snaps at detritus and small invertebrates in rivers, lakes and estuaries. It is a mouthbrooder. It is an important food fish. The fish is harmless to humans.
