Description
The glassy darter is a small North American perch of the family Percidae from the eastern United States. The species grows to about 7 cm and has a slender, pale and partly translucent body with a fine pattern, to which the name refers. It inhabits sandy runs of creeks and small to medium rivers. As a small bottom dweller it searches the sand for insect larvae and other small invertebrates. Darters lack a swim bladder and move over the bottom in short hops. The eggs are laid on the underside of stones. Owing to its small size the species is harmless to humans.
