Description
The darkedged splitfin is a livebearing goodeid (Goodeidae) from high-altitude lakes and springs of central Mexico. The species grows to about 5 cm and has a stocky, olive-brown body; males bear dark edges on the dorsal, anal and tail fins. As a schooling fish it swims in clear waters among water plants and eats small invertebrates, algae and larvae. The females bear live young nourished through an umbilical-like connection. The fish is harmless to humans.
