Description
The bold goodeid is a livebearing toothcarp (Goodeidae) from springs and streams of the Durango highlands in Mexico. The species grows to about 5 cm; the male is brightly coloured with a red-black tint and a dark fin margin, the female duller. The male fertilises the female internally, after which large, live young are born. As an omnivore it snaps at insect larvae, small invertebrates and algae. Through its extremely small range the species is critically endangered. The fish is harmless to humans.
