Description
Zvonimir's blenny is a small, scaleless rock fish of the family Blenniidae reaching about 7 cm. The stout, brownish body bears a row of pale spots along the base of the dorsal fin and small feathery skin flaps above the eyes. The species lives on shallow, often shaded rocky shores and in caves and crevices of the Mediterranean, the Black Sea and the adjacent eastern Atlantic, sheltering among stones. As a bottom-dweller it grazes on algae and small invertebrates. The male defends a cavity and guards the eggs laid in it until they hatch. Because of its small size it has no fishery importance, but it is a typical inhabitant of shaded Mediterranean rock faces.
