Description
The sulphurhead aulonocara is a cichlid (Cichlidae) endemic to Lake Malawi in East Africa, in the transition zone between rock and sand. The species grows to about 12 cm; the male in breeding dress is dark with a bright yellow head and blue sheen, the female silver-grey. As a bottom-oriented fish it searches among rocks for small invertebrates and biofilm. The female broods the eggs and young in her mouth. The fish is harmless to humans.
