Description
The scaled mbuna is an mbuna cichlid endemic to Lake Malawi in East Africa. The species grows to about 10 cm and has a slender, blue-black striped body; males and females often differ greatly in colour. As a territorial rock-dweller it grazes the algal mat from stones and snaps at small invertebrates among the growth. It is a mouthbrooder. The fish is harmless to humans.
