The Mvogo's tilapia (Sarotherodon mvogoi) is a freshwater fish of the family Cichlidae that grows up to 20 cm.
Description
Mvogo's tilapia is an African cichlid from West-Central Africa, including Cameroon. The species grows to about 20 cm and has a deep, silvery body; notably the sexes differ little in colour even when breeding. It inhabits rivers and creeks. As an omnivore it searches the bottom for algae, detritus, growth and small invertebrates. Species of the genus Sarotherodon are mouthbrooders in which often the male or both parents carry the brood in the mouth, and this species forms temporary pair bonds. Mvogo's tilapia is a local food fish and is harmless to humans.
