Description
The Sao Francisco pleco is a large armoured catfish (Loricariidae) from fresh water of the Sao Francisco basin in Brazil. The species grows to about 36 cm and has a robust, bony-plated, brown body with a broad sucker mouth. As a bottom-dweller it clings to wood and stones in rivers and rasps algae, growth and detritus; in drought it can use air from the gut. The fish is harmless to humans.
