Description
The adonis pleco is a large armoured catfish (Loricariidae) from fresh water of the Amazon basin in South America. The species grows to about a metre and has an elongate, bony-plated, blackish body that in juveniles is dotted with white spots, with a lyre-shaped tail and a sucker mouth underneath. As a bottom-dweller it clings to wood and stones of flowing rivers and rasps algae, biofilm and carrion. The very sharp fin and skin spines can inflict a wound when handled.
