Description
The plain happy is a cichlid endemic to Lake Malawi in East Africa. The species grows to about 10 cm; dominant males are metallic blue, females silver-grey. As a bottom-oriented fish it hovers above sandy transition zones of the lake and sifts mouthfuls of sand, filtering out small invertebrates. It is a mouthbrooder. The fish is harmless to humans.
