Description
Mamonekene's chromidotilapia is a small African cichlid from the Ogooué drainage in Gabon in West-Central Africa. The species grows to about 9 cm and has a streamlined body; courting individuals show handsome tints with a shining dorsal and belly margin. It seems to prefer medium to large rivers with flowing water. As an omnivore it searches the bottom for small invertebrates, insect larvae, algae and detritus. Species of the genus Chromidotilapia are biparental mouthbrooders, in which usually the male or both parents carry the brood in the mouth. The species is popular with aquarists and is harmless to humans.
