Description

Wurtz's barb is a cyprinid (Cyprinidae) from West Africa. The species has a streamlined, silvery body with large scales and barbels; the body shape varies somewhat between populations. It inhabits rivers and streams with clear current. As an omnivore it searches the bottom for algae, aufwuchs, small invertebrates and detritus. It is a local food fish. The species is harmless to humans.
