Description
The forktail blenny is a blenny (Blenniidae) from the western Pacific. The species has a slender body with a gradual shift from blue-grey to yellow and a deeply forked tail. It occurs solitarily or in pairs on lagoon and seaward reefs, hovering above the bottom. In the lower jaw it bears large, venom-filled canine fangs with which it bites a predator inside the mouth, making it release her; the venom has little effect on humans. It feeds on zooplankton. The species is harmless to humans.
