Description
Daget's tilapia is a cichlid (Cichlidae) from the fresh waters of West Africa. The species has a stocky, deep body characteristic of tilapias. It inhabits rivers, streams and lakes. Unlike the mouthbrooding tilapias it is probably a pair-bonding substrate spawner: the pair lays the eggs on a cleaned hard surface and both parents guard the brood. As an omnivore it feeds on algae, plant matter and small invertebrates. The species is harmless to humans.
