Description

The checkerboard cichlid is a small South American cichlid (Cichlidae) from the Amazon region. It inhabits quiet, shaded parts of streams and rivers with soft water. Bottom-bound, it snaps up small invertebrates and some plant matter. The species is a substrate brooder that lays adhesive eggs on leaves, wood or stones. It is harmless to humans.
