Description

The canary kurper is a cichlid (Cichlidae) from southern Africa. The species has an elongate body that shows a yellow belly and flank during courtship. It inhabits larger intermittent tributaries and prefers standing or slow-flowing pools; in reservoirs it thrives. As a predator it hunts insects and small fishes. As a cichlid it is a maternal mouthbrooder. The species is harmless to humans.
