Description
Werner's lamprologus is a cichlid from the lower Congo in Central Africa. The species grows to about 12 cm and has an oblong, pale body with fine markings. It is rheophilic: adapted to life in fast-flowing river water and staying among rocks and stones. As an ambush predator it feeds on small invertebrates, insect larvae and small fishes. It is probably a pair-bonding cave spawner that lays its eggs in a cavity or crevice and guards them. Owing to a restricted range and threats to its habitat the species is listed as Vulnerable (VU). It is harmless to humans.
