Description
The Tuyra cichlid is a cichlid from the Tuyra basin and surrounding rivers of eastern Panama in Central America. The species grows to about 24 cm and has a stocky, brownish body with dark markings. As a bottom-dweller it lives in rivers and streams and feeds on small invertebrates, algae and plant matter. Like other Central American cichlids it guards its eggs and young on a substrate. The fish is harmless to humans and has not been evaluated by the IUCN (NE).
