Description
The striped grunter is a grunter (Terapontidae) from fresh water of rivers in northern Australia and New Guinea. The species grows to about 30 cm and has a deep, stocky, silver-grey body with fine dark longitudinal lines. Like other grunters it can make a grunting sound with its swim bladder. As an omnivore it searches rivers and pools for insects, crustaceans, molluscs, fruit and plant material. The fish is harmless to humans.
