Description
The Chiapas cichlid is a cichlid (Cichlidae) from the Grijalva drainage of Chiapas in southern Mexico. The species grows to about 20 cm and has a deep, robust, grey-green body with dark spots and bars and a strong mouth. As a bottom-oriented omnivore it searches among stones and sand for snails, insect larvae, small fish and plant matter. It is a caring parental brooder that fiercely defends the young. The fish is harmless to humans.
