Description

The sheep pacu is a freshwater characin of the family Serrasalmidae from northeastern South America, related to the pacus and piranhas. The species grows to about 20 cm and has a deep, strongly compressed and silvery body. Unlike its predatory relatives it is mainly a plant-eater: with its inferior mouth it grazes water plants and eats fruits and seeds from the bottom.
