Description
The sharpnose saliva cichlid is a cichlid (Cichlidae) from clear streams and rivers of the Amazon basin in Peru in South America. The species grows to about 12 cm and has an elongate, yellow-brown body with a pointed snout and dark markings. As a bottom-oriented omnivore it searches among roots and leaf litter for small invertebrates, insect larvae and plant matter. It is a parental brooder that lays the eggs on a leaf and protects the larvae in the mouth. The fish is harmless to humans.
