Description
The yellowbarred red rockfish is a scorpionfish (Scorpaenidae) from reef water of the northwest Pacific, off East Asia. The species grows to about 30 cm and has a stocky, red-brown body with pale crossbands, a large, spiny head and large eyes. As a bottom-oriented ambush hunter it sits motionless among rocks and coral and engulfs passing small fish and crustaceans. The dorsal spines are venomous and can give a painful puncture wound.
