Description
The sand-loving pleco is an armoured catfish (Loricariidae) from fresh water of the western Amazon basin in South America. The species grows to about 16 cm and has an elongate, bony-plated, yellow-brown body with dark blotches and a broad sucker mouth. As a bottom-dweller it lives on sandy bottoms of rivers and sifts mouthfuls of sand, filtering out algae, detritus and small invertebrates. The fish is harmless to humans.
