Description
The red terror cichlid is a large cichlid from fresh water of the Pacific slope of Ecuador and Peru. The species grows to about 40 cm and has a deep, stocky body with green and orange tints and broad black crossbars; breeding females colour vivid red. As a territorial, bottom-oriented predator it searches rivers and pools for small fish, molluscs, crustaceans and insects. Both parents very fiercely guard the brood. The fish is harmless to humans.
