The Purple anthias is an anthias (Serranidae, Anthiadinae) from reef water of the western Pacific. The species grows to about 12 cm and has an elongate, purple body with yellow tints on the back body. As a plankton feeder it hovers in schools above coral and rock slopes and snaps at small zooplankton. It lives in harem groups in which the largest female changes sex on loss of the male. The fish is harmless to humans.
