Description

The Thompson's armored searobin is an armored searobin (Peristediidae) of sand and mud bottoms of the continental slope in the western Atlantic. The species grows to about 25 cm and has an elongate, bony-plated, reddish body with a projecting, forked snout and chin barbels with which it feels in the sediment. As a slow bottom-dweller of deeper water it searches for small crustaceans and worms. The fish is harmless to humans.
