Description

The Nierstrasz's armored searobin is an armored searobin (Peristediidae) of sand and mud bottoms of the continental slope in the Indo-West Pacific. The species grows to about 25 cm and has an elongate, bony-plated, reddish body with a projecting, forked snout and chin barbels with which it feels in the sediment. As a slow bottom-dweller of deeper water it searches for small crustaceans and worms. The fish is harmless to humans.
