Description
The manyband carp is a true carp (Cyprinidae) from slow-flowing rivers and lakes of southern China. The species grows to about 30 cm and has a stocky, yellow-brown body with several dark longitudinal stripes, large scales and two pairs of barbels by the mouth. As a bottom-oriented omnivore it roots through sand and mud searching for molluscs, insect larvae, worms and plant matter. The fish is harmless to humans.
