The Lethrinops micrentodon is a freshwater fish of the family Cichlidae that grows up to 12 cm.
Description
Lethrinops micrentodon is a cichlid endemic to Lake Malawi in East Africa. The species reaches about 12 cm and has an elongate body with an inferior mouth. It is specialised in eating benthic diatoms, which it grazes from the sandy substrate; the occurrence of the species may be linked to the presence of a particular type of diatom. It occurs on sandy bottoms at a few tens of metres depth. Like other Lake Malawi cichlids it is a maternal mouthbrooder. Owing to its specialised diet the IUCN assesses it as data deficient (DD).
