Description
The Hormuz cichlid is the only cichlid (Cichlidae) of Iran and occurs in warm springs, streams and brackish pools around the Strait of Hormuz in the south of the country. The species grows to about 10 cm and has an elongate, grey-green body; spawning males colour up dark with pale tints. As a bottom-oriented omnivore it grazes algae and biofilm and snaps small invertebrates. It is a mouthbrooder. The fish is harmless to humans.
