Description
The highbody pike characin is a South American characin (Acestrorhynchidae) from fresh water of the Amazon and Orinoco basins. The species grows to about 30 cm and has an elongate, silvery, streamlined body with a large mouth full of long, sharp teeth and often a dark spot on the tail base. As a fast predator it hunts smaller fish in the water column. The fish is harmless to humans.
