Description
The harlequin jawfish is a small jawfish (Opistognathidae) from coastal waters of the Indo-West Pacific. The species grows to about 3 cm and has a stocky body with a large head and mouth and a mottled, marbled pattern. As a bottom-dweller it digs a vertical home burrow in sand and gravel bottoms with its mouth and snaps at drifting zooplankton from the entrance. The male broods the eggs in its mouth. The fish is harmless to humans.
