Description

The dwarf altai osman is a cyprinid (Leuciscidae) from cold rivers and lakes of the Altai Mountains and Mongolian plateau in Central Asia. The species grows to about 20 cm and has a stocky, darkish body. As a hardy omnivore it tolerates cold, oxygen-poor and sometimes brackish highland water and eats algae, invertebrates, plant material and detritus. The fish is harmless to humans.
