Description
Guiart's cichlid is a cichlid from the Lake Victoria system in East Africa. The species has an elongate body with a fairly large mouth; males are more handsomely coloured than females. It is a fish-eating predator that preys on smaller fishes. As a haplochromine cichlid it is a maternal mouthbrooder. Owing to the impact of introduced Nile perch and habitat change in the lake the species is considered critically endangered. It is harmless to humans.
