Description
The Edward cichlid is an African cichlid (Cichlidae) from the great-lakes region of East Africa. The species has a fairly stocky body; males are more handsomely coloured than females. It inhabits shallow shore zones of lakes. As an omnivore it feeds on growth, small invertebrates and plant matter. As a haplochromine cichlid it is a maternal mouthbrooder: the female broods the eggs and young in her mouth. The species is harmless to humans.
