Description

The largefin darter tetra is a small, elongate bottom fish of the family Distichodontidae from Central Africa. The species grows to about 6 cm and has a slender body with relatively large fins, to which the name refers, and usually a dark pattern as camouflage. It stays in the marginal vegetation of large rivers, in flowing water, and picks small insects and other invertebrates from plants and substrate. It is a peaceful bottom dweller that stays in small groups. Owing to its small size the species has no fishery value and is harmless to humans.
