Description
The blunt snout gregory is a damselfish of the family Pomacentridae from the Indo-Pacific. The species grows to about 13 cm and has a stocky, dark-grey to brown body; juveniles show blue dots and lines that disappear with age. It is a decidedly territorial species of coral-rich reef areas. Like related damselfishes it is a 'farmer' that fiercely defends and grazes a patch of filamentous algae. As a predominantly herbivorous fish it feeds on those algae, supplemented with small invertebrates. The species is harmless to humans.
