Description
The Delagoa threadfin bream is a threadfin bream from the Indian Ocean, ranging from the Red Sea and the Persian Gulf through East Africa to Sri Lanka, the Bay of Bengal and the Andaman Sea. The species grows to about 30 cm and has a streamlined body that is pinkish above and silvery below, with a few faint snout stripes and a thread-like extension of the upper caudal lobe. As a bottom-dweller the fish lives on sand and mud bottoms between about 18 and 100 metres depth and feeds on crustaceans, squid, small fish and worms. It is a valued food fish. The IUCN assesses the species as Least Concern (LC).
